Conference on improving teaching methods based on feedback from learners and employers (August 28, 2020)
To constantly improve education and training quality to become one of the high-quality human resource training centers for economics and business administration, School of Economics (SoE), Can Tho University (CTU) held the “Conference on improving teaching methods based on feedback from learners and employers” at Conference Room 101, on August 28th, 2020.
Opening Remarks by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Hien, Vice-Rector of CTU
The conference welcomed 127 delegates and was honored to receive welcome remarks by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Hien Vice-rector of CTU. Then, a speech by Dr. Phan Huy Hung, Director of Quality Management Center, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Quoc Phu, Dean of College of Aquaculture and Fisheries. The department staff of SoE was also delivered speeches on teaching method innovations for 11 regular majors and 2 high-quality undergraduate majors.

The SoE was received many practical feedback and comments from enterprise leaders and employers about how to improve program curriculum, teaching methods, and teaching support activities. For example, (1) the teaching method should be based more on learners’ goals and future career opportunities, specific for each major, and linked to businesses; (2) it is also necessary to enhance students’ independent learning and research skills. Besides, the teaching method should also be helped learners to improve their soft skills to help them familiar with the working environment in reality.

The Ph.D. students, master students, and undergraduate students also contributed many ideas at the conference, focusing on enhancing knowledge and practical skills for learners to adapt to the current competitive working environment. It is also necessary for SoE not only to provide major knowledge for students but also to assist job-seeking skills and gathering information from employers, organizing more connection activities between SoE and enterprises. Finally, the current teaching method should also evaluate students’ diligence and qualifications correctly to create studying motivations to them.
