WORKSHOP ON ADJUSTMENTS AND CONSTRUCTION

OF POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

(UNDER DECREE NO.17/2021/TT-BGDĐT)

 

In order to improve the quality of training and meet the needs of society in the context of international economic integration and digital transformation, the Department of Business Administration (BA) organized an online workshop to consult the stakeholders on the adjustment and development of the Master and Doctoral degree programs in BA. The webinar commenced at 15:00 pm on January 15th, 2022. By this, the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program was adjusted and built-in two directions including research-oriented MBA and application-oriented MBA in order to better meet the needs of society.

The workshop received the attention and enthusiastic participation of experts, employers from public agencies and businesses such as the Department of Planning and Investment of Can Tho City, the People’s Committee of Vinh Long, VNPT Can Tho, Western Food Processing and Export Joint Stock Company (Westfood), Greenfeed Vietnam Group and Nonostyle Co., Ltd, etc. In addition, the workshop was also very pleased to welcome the representatives of lecturers from other universities such as Lac Hong University, An Giang University, Can Tho University of Technology, and Tay Do University. Additionally, the workshop also had the honor of having the presence of leaders of Graduate School, Center for Quality Management, Department of Scientific Management – Can Tho University, leaders from School of Economics and leaders from other departments along with the presence of experienced lecturers, alumni as well as PhD and Master students studying at the School of Economics.

The MBA program was officially launched in Can Tho University in the year 1994 (from 1994-2003, affiliated with University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City). Now, it is up to the age of 28. The Doctoral degree program in BA started enrolling students in 2013. So far, many PhD graduates are currently holding important positions in various orbanizrions and businesses. This shows that the post-graduate training program in BA has received great attention from learners and employers in the Mekong River Delta as well as the entire country.

The doctoral degree program in BA was designed to equip learners with deep expertise, the ability to conduct research on their own and collaborate in the field of BA. In addition, the program aims to strengthen learners’ scientific thinking and improve their skills to approach, solve and consult scientific and practical problems in this field as well as interdisciplinary. Learners also have the ability to teach postgraduates and become leaders, administrators and policymakers in both the public and private sectors after graduating.

Meanwhile, the research-oriented MBA program is designed to provide students with up-to-date knowledge to pursue careers in academic research in BA, the capacity for independent research and teamwork; the ability of forming scientific ideas and supplementing their own knowledge according to the practical requirements of management work in the field of BA. In addition, the program also equips trainees with the skills to identify, discover and test new knowledge, which can be adapted to the modern working environment in economic organizations and multinational corporations.

Besides, the application-oriented MBA program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of advanced scientific management methods for learners in the field of BA. In addition, the program also aims to equip learners with skills to analyze the situation, forming and improving their capacity to solve problems in BA and to effectively apply management tools and models to the actual operation of economic organizations.

At the workshop, experts and employers enthusiastically made comments, shared practical experiences as well as suggested necessary knowledge and skills that should be added to the training program in order to better meet societal needs. At the same time, the alumni as well as current students also enthusiastically exchanged opinions and shared their own experiences after participating in the training program.

Through the workshop, the adjustment team of the post-graduate training program in BA has summarized the achievements and the shortcomings that need to be overcome to adjust and build the postgraduate training program in BA more and more completely based on the development planning objectives of the Mekong River Delta and the whole country in the current digital transformation context. At the same time, many valuable comments and lessons learned at this workshop were also recorded so that the adjustment and construction of the postgraduate training program on BA can be further consolidated in the future.
